Ahhhh Venice. I didn't expect to love it as much as I did. Not the traditional tourist spots, suffocatingly crowded, where even the pigeons posed for pictures.
I preferred streets less travelled. The hidden piazzas and the glimpses of daily life:
...in an unusual city where everything is boat dependent. Order some yarn and UPS delivers:
Click on that picture, it's a UPS boat. Where life relies on boats: police, taxis, ambulances, getting the dogs to the vet:
Even a body's last ride. Look carefully at the background in this one:
A beautiful city.
Someday I hope to return.
It's hard to comprehend all the details that must go into traveling by boat for everything. What happens when it rains?

Wonderful photos! I'm glad to say that I've been to Venice twice, and doing as you did, exploring the side streets. :o)

Beautiful pictures! When we were in London, we tried to seek out the less crowded places. We also loved the little villages and countryside. That photo with the hearse boat in the background is amazing!

The pictures are really nice and not the usual scenes - gives you a good idea of what it's really like.

I have never been to Venice but looking at your pictures surely makes me feel I have missed something - it really looks like it's a very beautiful and interesting city. One day I'll go! Love and hugs!

Fantastic photos. Off the beaten track- that's the way to explore new places. Now I've got to google- why on earth did they build a city on the water?

Wow! What wonderful pictures, thank you for sharing them with us, love the UPS boat, and the coffin boat (I don't know why on that one - maybe because its so different its normal).
